2017 Edition

This photo, taken on June 9, 2016, shows Syrian rescue workers and citizens who evacuate people from a building following a barrel bomb attack by Syrian government forces on the rebel held Al-Fardous neighborhood of the northern city of Aleppo. Ameer ALHALBI, for the AFP, wins Gaze into the mind of 15 year olds 2017.

Juan BARRETO’s photo, taken in Caracas (Venezuela) on May 3, 2017 and showing a demonstrator catching fire after the gas tank of a police motorbike exploded during clashes in a protest against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, came in second with 12,67 % of the vote.

The photo of Jewel SAMAD, taken on August 5, 2017 in London, UK, closes the podium with 8,45 % of the votes. It shows US athlete Justin Gatlin kneeling before Jamaica’s Usain Bolt after winning the men’s 100m finals at the 2017 IAAF World Championships. Bolt took third place.

If the goal of the device is to allow each student of 3rd to look at the news throughout the world, it is also and above all to take the pulse of a generation that will make the democracy of tomorrow, guarantor of freedom!

Between July and September 2017, all around the world, teachers worked with their pupils on the selection of Gaze into the mind of 15 year olds. Close to 12,000 young people took part in the vote!

Students from Germany, USA (San Francisco, Houston, Dallas, Aiken), Italy, Tunisia, United Kingdom (London) and Lithuania participated in the operation.

In France, schools from 62 departments participated: Saône et Loire, Val-de-Marne, Ain, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Vaucluse, Hauts-de-Seine, Loire-Atlantique, Tarn, Seine-Maritime, Haute-Garonne, Gironde, Côtes-d’Armor, Seine-et-Marne, Aisne, Charente-Maritime, Manche, Yonne, Eure, Vendée, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Vienne, Maine-et-Loire, Rhône, Pyrénées-Orientales, Meuse, Vosges, Savoie, Sarthe, Orne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Yvelines, Loir-et-Cher, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Morbihan, Cher, Mayenne, Val-d’Oise, Paris, Dordogne, Eure-et-Loir, Corrèze, Ille-et-Vilaine, Hautes-Pyrénées, Indre-et-Loire, Pas-de-Calais, Deux-Sèvres, Bas-Rhin, Nord, Allier, Côte-d’Or, Puy-de-Dôme, Meuse, Lozère, Aveyron, Aube, Isère, Drôme, Seine-Saint-Denis, Doubs, Nièvre, Hérault, Var.

Over seas, schools of Reunion island, New Caledonia and Mayotte have also voted.

An operation for 15 year old pupils within the

First highlight of the school year for many secondary school students, the operation Gaze into the mind of 15 year olds is proposed since 2008. In partnership with the Calvados County CouncilNikon and the AFP, this is how the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award involves students all around the world.
